The meeting was called to order at 6:19 p.m. Board members present were Larry Baker, Rich Burleson, Donna Murphy, Kathy Seidling, Steve Steele, Ken Trusty, RC Wilkins and Marty Burleson. Board Advisors Beryl Baker and Lisa Steele were also present.
Barb Brierley was a guest. She updated the Board on the plans for the Steampunk Event. The date of the event will be October 12 and 13, 2019. Friday night will be the Ball which they would like to have at the Rialto. The time of the ball would be 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The Steampunk Board will request the City to close Main Street from the East 100 block to the West 100 block. The Rialto Board also wanted to make sure that the Merchants were agreeable about the location of the event and want to participate. The City did not have that on their agenda at the last meeting so the Rialto Board will wait to commit until these items have been addressed. Barb was excused from the meeting after her presentation.
The minutes of the March 5, 2019 meeting were approved upon the motion of RC and seconded by Steve.
The March 10 Business Plan workshop at Burleson’s was reviewed. Another meeting has been scheduled for April 14 at 1:00 p.m.
We have received our Rawlings grant money. RC made a motion, seconded by Larry that we open a checking account at Rocky Mountain Bank and Trust just for Grant money. Motion was unanimously passed. Signers on the account will be the officers, Rich Burleson, Larry Baker, Marty Burleson and Kathy Seidling. We will also request to have the account be available on line and we would request a debit card linked to that account. We will be looking for another Grant for the “Green Room” when we get suggestions from Bob Armon on the construction needs.
The PCC Senior Mini College class will be March 20 from 9-10:15. RC has created the power point slides and Rich will be the presenter. Donna, Marty and Larry will also be at the presentation. At 10:30 Friday morning, RC and Tom will be giving a tour of the Rialto to the seniors that would like to see the theater.
The Humane Society Fashion Dog Show will be held on April 13. They will be setting up on the March 27 and taking it down on the 15.
Rich has not completed the shadow box for the Fifi Dye can-can dress.
We are waiting to hear from Jeff Peterson regarding the Canon City Middle School Stage lights, etc. We are also continuing to look for additional auditorium seats.
KRLN Radio Show is held every week. Call the Chamber to reserve a spot.
Kathy Madonna has indicated that she would like to return to the Board. Marty made a motion, seconded by RC that Kathy Madonna be on our Board. The motion passed by majority vote with one no vote.
We have not heard from Karl Wertzbaugh regarding articles and ads in the Canon Daily Record.
The Board is continuing to discuss the possibility of offering an annual membership to the Rialto which would include season tickets for four shows, Pre-show receptions and preferred seating on opening night.
A motion was made by Marty, seconded by RC that 10% of our income will be deposited in our savings account.
Kathy Herrin had sent us information regarding the upcoming CCTC Festival in Salida. We will discuss a membership at our next business planning meeting.
A Green Room proposal is being discussed. The committee is exploring plans and costs to complete the project. We will look at a grant for this project when we get the necessary plans.
Rich and Larry are removing plaster railing, and plan to sheet rock, paint and add molding to the walls of the theater. Other projects are to install a curtain across the top of the stage, prep ceiling under the balcony for painting. We have reached out to the CAD class at FHS to design the green room. We are waiting for a visit from Bob Armon to give us options for stairways down from the balcony to the alley.
The play committee met on March 14. Changes have been made regarding the plays for 2019. CLUE has been changed to Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap”. Play dates are May 24,25,26,31, June 1, 2. “Dracula” will be October 18,19, 20, 25, 26, 27. Scrooge will be replaced by “Fruitcakes” on Dec. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15.
The play this summer for the Rialto Junior play has not been selected yet.
Fremont County Has Talent 2.0 will be April 19 and 20. The talent auditions were last week.
Bakers have selected the location for their picture of the Rialto that they donated to the Rialto.
The play for the summer “The Drunkard –or–The Fallen Saved”, a melodrama has been selected. It will be performed on each Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
A December Holiday Fundraising Party hosted by the Bakers is being planned. There will be silent auctions, food, and the release of our Annual Membership Plans.
The play committee is inviting Kathy Herrin to an evening Play Committee meeting in April.
