The meeting was called to order at 5:37 p.m. by President Rich Burleson. Board members present were Larry Baker, Kathy Madonna, Kathy Seidling, and Marty Burleson. Board advisor, Beryl Baker was also present. Board members RC Wilkins, Donna Murphy and Ken Trusty were absent.

Volunteer time sheets were completed by Board members to record their volunteer hours.

The minutes of the May 7, 2019 meeting were unanimously approved on the motion of Larry and seconded by Kathy Seidling.

The Treasurer’s Report was accepted on the motion of Marty and seconded by Kathy Madonna.


It was the consensus of the Board to not have business plan meetings until we have a better figure for our financial projections for the future.

Larry and Marty are going to visit Mohr’s to look at the options for recognizing those who have made donations in the past and in the future.

Kathy Madonna attended a Marketing class at the Florence Chamber of Commerce. She said it was very educational and that she has a list of websites and other avenues to advertise the Rialto.

The Board reviewed the FEDC meeting held at the Rialto on May 15 and the Florence Car Show on May 19, 2019. The Board received positive comments from both events and we look forward to participating next year.

The Board discussed the Deathtrap play. It was well received. RC will have a financial report for us at the next meeting.

We will contact Kathy Kennedy regarding the 100 year anniversary book and the photo of the hall ceiling.

Kathy Madonna has met with the Daily Record regarding advertising. We will advertise the Daily Record and the Shopper on the back page of all of our programs. They will offer free advertising for us and print articles about the activity at the Rialto.

Rich has been searching for the necessary pieces to complete our scaffolding.


Ken Trusty has indicated that he will not be able to participate on the Board at this time.

The Board has a few individuals who have shown some interest in being on the Board. We will be contacting them.

We had previously been contacted by the principal of the Canon City Middle School regarding some theater lights and curtains. RC picked up the donated curtains, lights and costumes for the Rialto. The Rialto also received a donation of a 4 foot tall radio from the 1930’s from a private party.

The Ladies of Mary have requested someone to speak on the Rialto History at their meeting on June 13 at 11:30 a.m. at the Parish Hall. Larry volunteered to go to that meeting.

Michelle Hyatt reported by phone after the meeting that 21 children have paid and registered for the Junior Players Summer Theatre Camp for the June 18—July 20 Session. The parent meeting will be June 15. There will be no 2nd session.

The Colorado Country Music Association Fest will be held at the Rialto on June 28, 29 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday June 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Marty, Kathy S. and Kathy M. will be in charge of the tickets.

Projects Committee

The board discussed the projects and their priority. Priority number one is to paint and finish the walls of the auditorium. The second project will be to refinish the auditorium and entry floor. The board will get paint samples to determine the color.

Play Committee

The committee will meet as determined necessary. Plays for the remainder of 2019 have been chosen and play dates for 2020 have been set.

Events Committee

Upcoming events will be the 4th of July Parade and the Pioneer Day Parade.


The consensus of the Board was to have one meeting a month on the first Tuesday.

If another meeting is deemed necessary, the Board will be notified.


The next regular Board meeting is July 2, at 5:30 p.m. The board will meet at the archives at City Hall at 4:30 p.m.
